Tokita Niko (十鬼蛇 二虎, Tokita Niko; "Niko Tokita") was Tokita Ohma's master and adoptive father, and founder of the Niko Style.

Appearance

Niko was a well-defined and muscular man with long black hair, which he tied into a ponytail that hung over his right shoulder (similar to Gaolang Wongsawat), and thin facial hair on his chin. He was often seen wearing a cape.

Personality

He was a confident man who followed the beat of his own drum and did whatever he thought was best. He developed a soft spot for Ohma after their first encounter, which caused them to have a master-student relationship from that point thereafter.

History

After being impressed by Ohma's sheer will to survive, he saved the nameless boy from the yakuza that were chasing him and offered to teach him his Niko Style before giving Tokita Ohma his current name.[1]

Ten years prior, Niko had to use all his strength to stop a rampaging Ohma and also to fight the person who called himself "the real Tokita Niko". Afterwards, wounded and tired, Niko fought against Taira Genzan and lost, dying due to his injuries.[2]

Power & Abilities

Niko was a notably powerful individual and the creator of the Niko Style. His abilities were superhuman, being capable of feats such as reacting quickly enough to deflect gun fire.[1] He also taught Ohma how to perform image training within an out-of-body experience while asleep, a skill which he presumably was able to do himself.[3][4]

Technique(s)

Niko Style (二虎流, Nikoryū): Founder of his own style of martial arts, this style is made up of four different katas, or forms: Redirection Kata, Adamantine Kata, Flame Kata and Water Kata; each kata must be fully mastered in order for the Niko Style to be complete.[4] His style places a high focus on adaptability and applicability, and many of the techniques are not set movement patterns but basic principles which can be applied in multiple situations.

  • Adamantine Kata (金剛の型, Kongo no Kata): In contrast to the Redirection Kata, this kata involves the tightening of the muscles (thus hardening one's body) for both defensive and offensive purposes.
  • Iron Fingers (鉄指, Tesshi):[4] A technique that involves tightening the muscles in the fingers thereby hardening the joints of the fingers. This can be used as a jabbing attack against the opponent's vitals, or as a pinching hold.
  • Redirection Kata (操流の型, Soryū no Kata):[1] This kata involves seeing and manipulating the "flow of power", using minimal motions to turn his opponents' attacks against them. As a result, this kata requires incredible kinetic vision and delicate physical control.
  • Flowing Edge (流刃, Ryūjin):[1] By calculating the angle of incidence of a projectile (like a bullet), Niko created an angle to deflect the projectile off of hard bone in order to change the projectile's trajectory. Niko was capable of using this technique to deflect pistol fire.[1]
  • Change of Scenery:[1] Niko used this technique to subdue his former employee, a yakuza boss.
  • Water Kata (水天の型, Suiten no Kata): This kata mainly consists of grappling techniques, and places emphasis on flexibility and fluidity of motion.
  • Bind of Pisces:[4] This technique involves immobilising the opponent's arms by pinning one arm by their head with one's legs and the other arm with one's hands.
  • Combined Katas: Some moves of the Niko Style utilize principles from multiple katas.
  • Flashing Steel (瞬鉄, Shuntetsu):[4] The fastest attack of the Niko Style, which combines the speed of the Flame Kata's Raging Fire technique with the hardened striking power of the Adamantine Kata's Indestructible technique; this combined technique involves charging the opponent at a high speed and delivering a blow with tightened muscles.[4] The momentum and hardness interact to make for a devastating blow, which is even more effective when used as a counter. However, despite it being the Niko Style's fastest attack, it is very linear, making it predictable.[4] Flashing Steel has at least four forms: Blast (爆, Baku), a shoulder tackle,[4][5] Smash (砕, Sai), a punch,[4] and Pierce (穿, Sen), a finger stab. The fourth, Revolution (廻, Kai), is slightly different, consisting of a throw to the ground with a follow-up punch; it is considered a combination of the Adamantine and Water Katas.
