The Kengan Association hires a number of neutral referees to adjudicate the match results. Because the Kengan Matches have virtually no rules to enforce, and even the "no weapons" rule is only enforced before the match (as seen in the Tokita Ohma vs. Kaburagi Koji match),[1] the referees mainly serve the purpose of calling the start and end of each match. However, due to the brutality involved in many of the matches, the timing of calling each match can play a critical role. In addition, because they have seen so many fights up close, each of them has a strong intuition and can often tell how strong a fighter is at first glance.

Anna has two years of refereeing experience, after being scouted while studying abroad in Japan, and tends to call matches quicker; she is the only female referee in the Kengan Association.[2] Anna's language skills allow her to interpret for foreign fighters, in addition to serving as a pipeline between the Kengan Association and the Brazilian MMA community. She has some experience in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but quit after getting her white belt.  Cheetah Hattori (ćć¼ćæć¼ ęéØ, Chi-ta- Hattori; "Cheetah Hattori") is an older stocky man with a goatee and ponytail. Hattori was originally a wrestler and a Kengan fighter, but switched careers to refereeing due to an injury, and now has 17 years of experience.[5][6] He tends to call his matches slower because he places more stress on the flow of the match, according to him, and he has one of the best eyes for strong fighters out of all the referees,[6] as evidenced by his instinctive reaction to Okubo Naoya facing off against Kanoh Agito. He is also in charge of training referees for the Kengan Association. Naturally, "Cheetah" is a nickname, but only a privileged few know his real name.[6] His point of pride is that he was strong in his youth (or so he says).[6] | ||
